Timeless Ways to be Happy - Part 4

Finding Your Calling

Some find meaning in religion or spirituality while others find purpose in their work or relationships. Finding your calling may be much more than accomplishing one simple strategy for increasing your happiness, but having a sense of purpose  of feeling like you are here for a reason  can perhaps bring the greatest joy of all.

Get into the Flow

Flow is the form of joy, excitement and happiness that occurs when we are so absorbed in an activity we love that we can lose ourselves and time seems to stand still. What creates flow is unique to each one of us. To find and sustain true happiness in our lives, we must get off the sidelines and get into the flow. And two more just to sweeten the pot a little more.

Play to Your Strengths

One way to achieve flow is by understanding and identifying our strengths and core values, and then begin to use these every day. Once we aware of our strengths and we begin to play to your strengths we can better incorporate them in all aspects of our lives.

Don't Overdo It.

Know when to say when. What gives you joy and happiness the first time may not work the second time. Too much of a good thing may begin not to feel as good if the thing becomes more of a routine, or an expectation. Set healthy and reasonable boundaries for yourself and don't overdo it. Learning to be happy on all the days between.

Timeless Ways to be Happy - Part 3

Rest

There are times when we need the time to unwind, decompress, or to put it simply, just to chill. Life comes at all of us hard and fast. Time, as do the days on the calendar, keeps going forward at its own natural pace, which is not always the pace we would choose. Fatigue, stress and exhaustion may begin to settle in on us faster than we may think, or notice. The best remedy for this is indeed rest.

Move!

The expression a runner's high does not infer an addiction, but a feeling or a state of mind - a state of euphoria. There is no question exercise, or any physical exertion, elevates your mood and enhances a more positive attitude as well as fosters better personal self-esteem and confidence. Indeed, one way to increase your happiness is to move!

Put on a Happy Face

Sometimes we have to fake it until we make it. I'm not suggesting that we not be honest, real or authentic, but I'm suggesting, sometimes, we just need to put on a happy face and keep moving forward. Researchers claim that smiling and looking like we are happy will indeed make us happier. Studies further show that if we act like we are happy then we can experience greater joy and happiness in our lives.

Pursue Your Goals

The absence of goals in our lives, or more specifically avoiding to pursue our goals, makes us feel like we are stuck and ineffective. The pursuit of goals in our personal lives, in our relationships, or with our careers, is the difference between having a mediocre life or a life full of passion and enthusiasm. Pursue your goals and watch your happiness soar.

Timeless Ways to be Happy - Part 2

Remember the Kid You Were

Do you remember how to play? I'm not referring to playing a round of golf or a set of tennis. I'm talking about playing like you did when you were a child  a game of tag; leap frog, or street baseball when the bat is a broken broom handle and the bases are the parked cars. One way to find or maintain your happiness is to remember the kid you were and play!

Be Kind

There is no question that by merely watching acts of kindness creates a significant elevation in our moods and increases the desire for us to perform good deeds as well. Kindness is indeed contagious and when we make a commitment to be kind to ourselves and to others we can experience new heights of joy, happiness and enthusiasm for our lives.

Spend Time with Your Friends

Although an abundant social and romantic life does not itself guarantee joy, it does have a huge impact on our happiness. Learn to spend time with your friends and make the friendships a priority in your life.

Savor Every Moment

To be in the moment is to live in the moment. Too often we are thinking ahead or looking ahead to the next event or circumstance in our lives, not appreciating the here and now. When we savor every moment, we are savoring the happiness in our lives .

Timeless Ways to be Happy - Part 1

Our passions, expectations, life experiences, and even our personalities all contribute to the level of happiness we experience in our lives. Some find happiness in their careers while others find ways to be happy in their marriages or other relationships.

No matter how you define happiness for yourself, there are certain universal and time-proven strategies to bring, and sustain, more happiness into your life. The following one dozen timeless ways to be happy can be adapted and even customized to fit your needs. Over time, these strategies will become positive and life-changing habits that will begin to bring more happiness, joy and peace into your life.

Notice What's Right

Some of us see the glass as being half-full and others see the glass as half-empty. The next time you are caught in traffic, begin thinking how nice it is to have a few moments to reflect on the day, focus on a problem you have been trying to solve, or brainstorm on your next big idea. The next time you get in the slow line at the grocery store, take the opportunity to pick up a tabloid magazine and do some guilty pleasure reading. Take all that life throws out you and reframe it with what's right about the situation. At the end of the day, you will more content, at peace and happy. Take the time to begin to notice what's right and see the world change in front of your eyes.

Be Grateful

How many times do you say the words "Thank you" in a day? How many times do you hear these same words? If you are doing the first thing, saying the thank you, the latter will naturally happen. Learn to be grateful and you will be open to receive an abundance of joy and happiness.

Tips for a Successful Interview - Part 3

Stay Positive

Avoid apologies for any perceived weaknesses, and don’t confide. Don’t open any discussions with statements like, “I know you need someone with extensive network experience, but I’ve only worked in one internship where I was exposed to it.” Try instead, “I was an intern at HP, and was exposed to some aspects of networking.”
Concentrate on what you bring to the table. In fact, try keeping the conversation positive by editing anything negative. Don’t say “no” to anything without qualifying the statement. A good response might be, “While I don’t know very much about SQL, I do have working knowledge of Perl, Verilog, and Bash scripting.”

Say More

Don’t stop at a simple “yes.” Treat every question as if it were the opening of a discussion; always elaborate and explain. You want to volunteer your skills and how you have used them. And you also want to demonstrate your willingness to communicate. While you want to provide an alternative to saying no, as suggested above, you also want to avoid a one-word response of any type. Think of answering questions as if they were short essay answers you had to provide on a test. Don’t make someone urge you to “be more specific.” At the same time, don’t ramble; Keep your answers substantive.

Avoid Overconfidence

Be confident, but don’t overdo it. Interviewers are turned off by arrogance. Remember that candidates are expected to fit in, and play by the company’s rules, not vice versa. You should come across as well-equipped, but also willing to learn. Just because you know Kerberos protocol does not mean you necessarily have the answer for world peace. Show your willingness to learn and to share by asking questions, responding with details, and listening with interest. It’s all about the ability to work well with others.

Tips for a Successful Interview - Part 2

Bring It With You

You should carry to the interview a slim portfolio or file folder containing such items as an extra copy of your resume, contact information for your references, copies of award certificates, and reference letters, if you have any. Anticipate the recruiter’s needs, and include anything you think may be of interest or contribute to your profile, but don’t make it a cumbersome stack.

Leave It At Home

Do not carry your cell phone, even if you have it turned off. iPods are also a no-no. Once again, you need to appear professional, and not concerned with missing a personal phone call. Recruiters have stated candidates are arriving in increasing numbers talking on the phone, answering it during an interview, or conversing with their ear buds still inserted in their ears. Some have even witnessed candidates continuing to listen to music during the interview itself. Don’t set yourself up for immediate failure. Bring to the interview only what is necessary.

Anticipate Questions

Think like a recruiter. What would you ask? Prepare for the interview by writing down both potential questions and your answers. You may learn something. Typical questions are along the lines of, What type of salary are you looking for? Where do you see yourself in five years? What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses? What interests you about our company? Why have you chosen this field?

Tips for a Successful Interview - Part 1

Dress Appropriately

Pay attention to the details, the interviewer will. Are your shoes shined?  Are your clothes pressed?  Wrinkles and smudges can indicate you are careless. All shirts must have collars; a tie is always a good move for men, and certainly, a jacket over a collared shirt. Women should basically adhere to these rules as well. Pay attention to both the top and bottom half of your attire. You may be sitting across the room from the interviewer, who will have time to examine your clothing. Keep the attention on you and your accomplishments, not on the tear in your khakis. No sneakers, extraneous jewelry, cologne, or wet hair. You don’t want to come across as too stiff, but you also don’t want to appear as if you don’t care.

Make Eye Contact

Look at your recruiter during the conversation. Interviewers state time and again that many applicants refuse to do this simple thing, and never make it any further in the process. Establish eye contact with the initial handshake and don’t forget to focus on the recruiter during the interview. Avoid staring into space or at your feet. If you remember to raise your chin just a bit, you will automatically look at the person opposite you. Not looking at the interviewer can be interpreted as lack of interest or even lack of candor. And while you are remembering to make eye contact, don’t forget to smile occasionally. It shows confidence.

Be Prepared

Research the company. With everything online, you have no excuse for not examining the company website and Googling articles on its plans and accomplishments, and exactly what goods and services it offers or manufactures, and its place in the community. Interviewers may ask if you are familiar with what the company does or is planning. You want to be able to discuss details and suggest some familiarity. If you have friends who work there, ask them about the work environment, and about company goals. Doing your homework can mean the recruiter will focus sooner on you. If you don’t exhibit some knowledge of the company, it can be interpreted as lack of interest.

Ask Good Questions

Be prepared to ask smart, insightful questions. Ask about benefit plans and the company system for reviews, promotions, and career growth. You may ask to see the environment in which you will be working. Ask about community outreach and future plans. Although you shouldn’t bring it with you, a written list of questions you have brainstormed before will help you. Don’t just ask about Casual Fridays, personal parking space, or if you get every weekend off; don’t come off as what’s-in-itfor- me type.

Five Ways to Pack More Efficiently

Don’t want to check your luggage? The obvious answer is to pack fewer clothes. Here are five ways I’ve learned to travel lighter.

1. Send stuff ahead if possible. Particularly if there are items you can live without for a few days before you leave home, shipping them to your destination will take a big load out of your luggage.

2. If you’re taking a suit, wear it on the plane. Suits take up a lot of space, so wearing one will free up more room for other things. Planes are cold in any case (and airlines are no longer giving out free blankets) so your jacket will keep you warm. Also, you’ll look more professional, which means that if there’s an upgrade to be had, you’re more likely to be the one to get it. And if the suit gets wrinkled, you can always have it pressed, or press it yourself when you get to your hotel.

3. Take basic black and a variety of accessories that will make a variety of outfits. For example, adding a scarf, a contrasting jacket, or a really great belt will change any basic black dress into something entirely different.

4. Keep shoes to a minimum. They’re heavy and they take up space. If you stick to basic colors in your clothing you should be able to get away with one pair of dress shoes and one pair of comfortable walking shoes. Maybe add a pair of sandals if they’re light and you’re going someplace hot.

5. Take things that are hand washable. Not only will you avoid having to pack more changes than you really need, but you’ll also avoid the possibility of having something lost, shrunken, or otherwise damaged by a hotel laundry or the local cleaner. Drip dry isn’t tacky anymore. There are many wonderful, good looking fabrics that can be simply washed and hung up to dry. And if you do need to press something, either have it pressed by the hotel or most hotels have irons in every room—or available from housekeeping.

SELF IMPROVEMENT TIPS - Part 2

5. Remember that love is not a feeling, it is a choice! Make the choice to love yourself. After all, who deserves it more? The more loving you are to yourself, the more loving you will be able to be to everyone around you. Family and friends will especially benefit from this. Make a choice to come from a place of love for yourself and for everyone who is important in your life.

6. Think about what you need to fill that emptiness inside, that place that is longing for love. What specifically do you need? Find the answer and then give it to yourself. No one is more capable of loving you, and giving you exactly what you need than you are! When you learn how to fulfill yourself in that way, you stop searching for it outside of yourself and you suddenly begin attracting it to you! You change yourself from a sponge to a magnet! People see you radiating self love and they are drawn to you!

7. Keep a journal. Write about your experiences, good and bad. When you write down your good experiences allow yourself to feel those good feelings again. When you remember the bad experiences, allow yourself to feel pride. Pride because you faced a challenge in your life and you are here today to write about it, which must mean you are a survivor and a fighter. Tell yourself, "I know pain, but I've yet to be introduced to surrender." Keep on keeping on.

Tips

Here's something to try saying every day. Place it on your mirror. It always helps: "Look in the mirror and what do I see? A beautiful boy/girl staring back at me!" "Oh wow!" I thought. Who could that be? [smile and say] "Oh! It's most definitely me!"

Keep a list of the things you love about your self or things you've done that if you saw someone else do them, you would love them. For instance, if you scored more in basketball, write it down, then eventually you can build up more pros, to help you know why to love yourself (if you're analytical)

Practice meditation. It will help you love yourself and others more.

Do what you enjoy. If that is do go out anywhere, or with anyone. Make yourself happy.

Every time you feel a negative emotion, pause and feel it, then thank yourself for feeling it. Emotions are nothing more than an experience which contributes to who we are. Accepting negative things as good things in another perspective can yield great results.

SELF IMPROVEMENT TIPS - Part 1

We spend so much of our time waiting to be loved, hoping love will find us, searching, and yearning for that special love. Feeling empty and lost without it. Wanting someone to give us love and fill us up.

Steps

1. Take a realistic evaluation of yourself. Be honest with yourself about how valuable you believe you are as a person. The way you see yourself and treat yourself is the very way others will see you and treat you. Do you see yourself as valuable, worthy of the gift of love? More importantly, do you treat yourself lovingly and as a valuable being? It’s ok to be truthful with yourself, it may not be pretty! Awareness is the first and more powerful step on the path to change!

2. Forgive yourself if you ever believe you aren't worthy of love. After all, there were probably things in your childhood or previous years that created that belief for you. It simply isn’t true; every being on this planet is worthy of love, after all, love is what we are here for, it’s what it’s all about. Say to yourself now; “I forgive myself for believing that I was not worthy of love.” Go look in a mirror and say it out loud to yourself, look yourself right in the eyes and say it like you mean it. Go on, I’ll wait.

3. Post this affirmation up someplace where you will see it each and every day; "I have the courage to believe that I am worthy of love." Read it out loud, every day, at least once, ideally at least ten times each time you notice it. Sticky notes are fabulous for affirmations.

4. Take action and make those words real. Begin loving and valuing yourself. It is said that you cannot give away what you do not have. So, if you are not able to love and accept yourself unconditionally, how in the world are you going to love and accept anyone else unconditionally? Much less accept that love in return from them?

10 New Uses for Newspaper

"Newspaper, by design, is a very absorbent product, because it has to absorb ink. But that also means it is equipped to absorb all sorts of moisture, including moisture and the resulting odors found in shoes, in vegetable drawers, and elsewhere," says Chris Morrissey, vice president of marketing for Sun Chemical, in Northlake, Illinois, the world's largest printing-ink manufacturer.

Use Newspaper to:

1. Deodorize food containers. Stuff a balled-up piece of newspaper into a lunch box or thermos, seal it, and let sit overnight.

2. Ripen tomatoes. Wrap them individually and leave them out at room temperature.

3. Pack delicate items.Wrap frames and figurines with several pieces of newspaper, then crumple the remaining sections to fill extra space in the box.

4. Wipe away tough streaks on glass. Use newspaper with cleaning fluid to clean mirrors and windows.

5. Preserve antique glass. Some older frames have finishes on the glass that can be damaged by cleaning solutions. Remove smudges by rubbing with newspaper dipped in a solution of one part white vinegar and one part warm water. Let air-dry.

6. Dry shoes. Place crumpled paper in them overnight.

7. Wrap gifts. Use the comics to wrap a child's birthday gift, or try the wedding announcements for an engagement gift.

8. Create a home for slushy snow boots. During the winter, keep a pile of newspaper near the entryway. When your little snowmen and women come home, they can toss their winter wear onto the newspaper instead of creating puddles on the floor.

9. Prepare a garden. In the fall, mow a patch of lawn to make room for a dedicated bed. Cover it with four layers of newspaper, then a four-inch layer of shredded leaves or bark mulch. Hose it down. Come spring, the compost blanket will have smothered the grass roots, and the bed will be primed for planting.

10. Keep the refrigerator vegetable drawer dry and free of smells. Line the bottom with newspaper.

The Top 5 Skills an Effective Manager Should Have

It is not foolish to say that a manager is one who didn’t work at all. Yes true actually we take the wrong term for manager. We take manager as superman who can do everything. One thing that I might say about managers is that he is the one who can manage everything. So he needs some skills to do it all. Here are the five skills that I think a manager must have.

Communication :

Manager must have good communication skill, no doubt about it. I personally believe that there are many types of communications. Like public speaking your projects must speak to owner/CEO. It is more important than making a speech to thousand people.

Training :

Training is as essential as anything else. It is the only way to refine the skills & tricks that one has. It tells how to handle an uncertain situation. I mean to refer lot of personal training that held in city for personal growth etc.

Punctual :

Mostly people think that it is very hard to manage the time while working on different project
but I simply suggest that if one is punctual then he will be good with time management. Yes punctuality is the key to success. This skill can be developed by being conscious about it.

Flexible but rigid too :

How to flexible if people are against you? Tough to answer but we don’t have to do it, just manage it. Be flexible to you team and little bit kind to them. This will create a gentle return to you that you can’t expect from you team. Also with flexibility be rigid to the rules & regulations of organization for others & yourself too.

Technology :

I heard mostly from managers that they don’t know typing or they hate computers. I ask if they will hate such things then how they can use it. Manager should be good with latest technologies. If it is not possible then at least be good at Microsoft office & typing.

Essential Blackberry Tips and Tricks - Part 4

Essential Blackberry Tips and Tricks - Part 4   ( Continues  )

20. Hidden Help

The hidden 'Help Me!' screen shows the signal strength, battery level, device PIN, free space, space in use, IMEI, OS version, how long the BlackBerry has been on and some other info that
can be useful for troubleshooting. View it by pressing Alt + Caps + H.
MORE INFO: The Help Me! Screen collects key information together

21. Archive, don't uninstall

Only the very latest BlackBerry models have anything like enough memory for all the apps you want. When you run out of space, pick the ones you use least and archive them to your microSD card (this only works with apps from App World). Select the app in the My World sections of App World and choose Menu > Archive; archived apps have a green arrow on their icons and you can click them to reinstall - but you may have to restart to archive or restore an app.
ARCHIVE APPS: You can't run apps from the SD card but you can archive them to save space

22. Save power overnight

BlackBerry is very frugal on battery life and you can make it last even longer by having yours turn itself off overnight and back on in the morning. Choose Options > Auto On/Off; you can have different on and off times for weekdays and weekends.

23. Master Control Program

Use the free third-party tool MCP for tweaking your BlackBerry, doing a factory reset in an emergency - or just installing updates more easily than with the sprawling and inefficient BlackBerry Desktop software.
TWEAK BLACKBERRY: Install a new OS or tweak the modules on your BlackBerry with the excellent Master Control Program

24. Install any app

If you want to run an app that doesn't have an installer - including alternative email clients like Astrasync and NotifySync which RIM won't sign for installation - connect your BlackBerry by USB, switch to mass storage mode so it shows up on your PC as a drive and copy the JAR file to the root folder. On your BlackBerry use the Media app to open the folder and select the JAR file to install it.

25. Save money on texts

If you're sending a message to another BlackBerry user, BlackBerry Messenger is free -but you need to know their BlackBerry PIN. The easiest way to get someone in your contact list is to invite them
