Self Help Tips - Cloud Computing

In their quest to find answers, experts have demonstrated that the future of medical discoveries, environmental challenges, energy deficit, all lie in collaborating through ‘Cloud Computing’.

With Cloud Computing, users have been able to access data, share expertise and high-end infrastructure from around the world, and vice-versa. The resources are shared through a public platform like the internet. Several companies like Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, etc have invested heavily as they reach out to users.

Cloud Computing companies have customers of three kinds -

Infrastructure-as-a-service:
Option of renting and utilizing computing power and storage capacity of vendor's quality.

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS):
Vendors license particular services to subscribers on-demand and once the contract expires, the services are disabled.

Platform-as-a-Service:
Here a developer is given the opportunity to utilize various web-tools to build and host applications.

The Cloud (other computers in the network) does have its pros and cons in this formative stage.

Advantages include : Better performance by PCs in the cloud network, as fewer processing will be loading in each individual PC, the rest on the Cloud. No more spending on computer upgrades, instead services of another high-power PC can be made use of. Lesser hardware and software required, so costs of maintenance are tremendously lowered. Permanence of data, as all information stays in the cloud, even if you experience a hard-disk crash. Sync with experts worldwide on multiple projects and avail optimum results through the Cloud. Work from any PC and on the move, with the availability of internet access.

Cloud Computing also has some drawbacks like,
The over-dependence on the providers.
The reliability of the vendors.
Protection laws in different countries vary. For eg, according to EU data protection regulation, personal information cannot be transferred outside the European Economic Area.

Threat of unauthorized access to confidential data.
Requires internet throughout and near-impossible to work with dial-up connections.
The concept isn't entirely new and is evolving even today. In the recent past, several variations have been introduced through 'Grid' and 'Utility Computing'.
- Grid Computing is a virtual super-computer formed by a cluster of computers in concert, each performing complex tasks.
- Utility Computing is a format in which subscribers are charged based on their usage, similar to the way in electricity is charged.

As new developments take place with increasing frequency, your world is on the brink of transition.

Self Help Tips - Natural Ways to Lighten Your Skin

Natural Ways to Lighten Your Skin

Skin Dark spots, and freckles, and skin-damage - oh my! Looking to lighten your complexion? Every shade of skin is beautiful, but as we grow older our skin tone can change. Freckles may appear, dark spots can arise, and skin may not be as light as it once was. So, if you're still not ready to embrace your dark side, read on for a few natural whitening tips and tricks.

Use Sunblock
One of the easiest ways to stay fair is to use sunblock on a daily basis. Find a moisturizer that includes an SPF of 15 or higher and use it every morning after washing your face. Sunblock not only prevents your skin from getting darker, but also blocks harmful UV rays that can cause cancer and premature aging. Remember your hands when applying sunblock, as they are a prime area for age spots.

Exfoliate
Exfoliating once a week will remove dead skin cells to lighten and brighten your skin. Mix two tablespoons oatmeal and two tablespoons brown sugar with a quarter cup of milk, and stir until a paste forms. Gently scrub your face, rinse, and moisturize.

Make a Mask
A homemade mask is a great way to lighten your skin and a good excuse to kick back on the couch. Try using one once a week. Use one tablespoon of each of the following: sandalwood paste, lemon juice, tomato juice, and cucumber juice. Mix them all together to form a paste. Spread the mixture on your face and wait until it dries. Rinse and moisturize for a natural glow.

Licorice Extract
Licorice extract contains glabridin, a component that acts as a natural skin whitener. Apply a thin layer of the extract morning and evening, after you wash your face and before you moisturize. Licorice extract can be found at any health food store or ordered online. Be sure to store the bottle in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness. Note: test a small amount on the back of your arm before using on your face to be sure you do not have an allergic reaction.

Remember to love your skin no matter what color it is. It's a part of who you are and that's what makes you beautiful and unique.

Here are some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life :

* Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.
* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it...
* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to be kind to others.
* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
* The second mouse gets the cheese.
* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
* Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
* We could learn a lot from crayons ... some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colours, but they all have to live in the same box.
* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery
on a detour

Keep Getting New Things in Life !!

Theory of Emptiness

Have you got the habit of accumulating money , and not spending it because you think that in the future you may be in want of it? Have you got the habit of storing clothes, shoes, furniture, utensils and other home supplies that you haven’t used already for some time? And inside yourself...? Have you got the habit to keep reproaches, resentment, sadness, fears and more?

Don’t do it! You are going against your prosperity!

It is necessary to make room, to leave an empty space in order to allow new things to arrive to your life. It is necessary that you get rid of all the useless things that are in you and in your life, in order to prosperity to arrive. The force of this emptiness is one that will absorb and attract all that you wish. As long as you are, materially or emotionally, holding old and useless feelings, you won’t have room for new opportunities.

Goods must circulate....

Clean your drawers, the wardrobes, the workshop, the garage...

Give away what you don’t use any longer...

The attitude of keeping a heap of useless stuff ties your life down. It’s not the objects you keep that stagnate your life... but rather the attitude of keeping...

When we keep in store, we consider the possibility of wanting, of penury.. we believe that tomorrow it may lack, and that we won’t be able to fulfil those necessities. . With that idea, you are sending two messages to your brain and to your life.

Self help Tips - Kinesic, The Body Language

Kinesics

Kinesics is the interpretation of body language such as facial expressions and gestures — or, more formally, non-verbal behaviour related to movement, either of any part of the body or the body as a whole.

The term was first used (in 1952) by Ray Birdwhistell, a ballet dancer turned anthropologist who wished to study how people communicate through posture, gesture, stance, and movement. Part of Birdwhistell's work involved making film of people in social situations and analyzing them to show different levels of communication not clearly seen otherwise..

Drawing heavily on descriptive linguistics, Birdwhistell argued that all movements of the body have meaning (ie. are not accidental), and that these non-verbal forms of language (or paralanguage) have a grammar that can be analysed in similar terms to spoken language. Thus, a "kineme" is "similar to a phoneme because it consists of a group of movements which are not identical, but which may be used interchangeably without affecting social meaning"

Birdwhistell estimated that "no more than 30 to 35 percent of the social meaning of a conversation or an interaction is carried by the words."

A few Birdwhistell-isms are as follows :
• Social personality is a temporo-spatial system. All behaviors evinced by any such system are components of the system except as related to different levels of abstractions.
• Even if no participant of an interaction field can recall, or repeat in a dramatized context, a given series or sequence of body motions, the appearance of a motion is of significance to the general study of the particular kinesic system even if the given problem can be rationalized without reference to it.
• All meaningful body motion patterns are to be regarded as socially learned until empirical investigation reveals otherwise.
• No kineme ever stands alone.

In one current application, kinesics are used as signs of deception by interviewers. Interviewers look for clusters of movements to determine the veracity of the statement being uttered. Some related words may be:
• Emblems a substitute for words and phrases
• Illustrators accompany or reinforce verbal messages
• Affect Displays Show emotion
• Regulators Control the flow and pace of communication
• Adaptors Release physical or emotional tension

Kinesics are an important part of non-verbal communication behavior. The movement of the body, or separate parts, conveys many specific meanings and the interpretations may be culture bound. As many movements are carried out at a subconscious or at least a low-awareness level, kinesic movements carry a significant risk of being misinterpreted in an intercultural communications situation.

Self Help Tips - How To Appear Thin - Part 1

HOW TO Appear Thinner?

We all want to appear the best we can no matter what our size. Maybe you have a few extra pounds and want to camouflage them. You do not always have to lose weight in order to appear thinner. Here are some tips that will make you look and feel as if you have experienced weight loss.

Instructions :

Step 1 - If you are heavy on the bottom, wear a solid color on your bottom half. Stay away from patterns and bright colors. Wear patterns on top to detract attention from your lower half. You will appear more balanced and look thinner without having to lose weight.

Step 2 - If you are heavy on top, reverse this. Wear bottoms that have more detail, and tops that are simple and plain. Again, this minimizes your top half, and makes you appear thinner all over.

Step 3 - To give yourself the appearance of a waist, wear longer, fitted shirts that come just below the lower belly. Wear a wide belt or scarf around your waist area. You will give the appearance of a slimmer waistline.

Step 4 - Do not wear clothes too loose. This does not camouflage, but only gives the appearance of sloppiness. Wear clothes that are form fitting to appear thinner.

Step 5 - Do not wear clothes that are too tight either. We do not to overly accentuate bumps or bulges. This will only make you appear heavier than you actually are. You will look like you have lost weight if you wear clothes that fit your body.

Step 6 - Wear heels. They make you taller and that makes you appear thinner without having to actually lose weight or diet.

Step 7 - Spanx are great for slimming you down. They are comfortable and can make you appear 3-4 sizes smaller without diet or exercise.

Step 8 - With pants wear a slightly flared leg so that you do not look thigh heavy. This will give your leg a balanced look all the way down which makes you look taller and thinner.

Step 9 - Always choose dark jeans. A cut that goes slightly above the belly button, with a light flare in the leg will be most flattering. Darker jeans are instantly slimming.

Step 10 - Pockets of pants should be high up on the rear to accentuate the buttocks. In order to appear thinner, avoid pockets that are low on the rear.

Step 11 - To hide a variety of sins wear a skirt with a slight flare. Stay away from clingy fabrics which will accentuate areas of heaviness. This will make you appear
like you weigh less.

Job stress can harm women’s fertility : Study

CURVES OF SUCCESS?

‘Career Women Have Lower Levels Of Oestrogen, Vital For Conceiving’. A slimwaisted, non-curvy shape favours women in competition, particularly under stressful and difficult circumstances. Such androgynous figures indicate low levels of oestrogen, say researchers

Melbourne : The modern women with successful careers and high stress levels to match may be damaging their chances of having children, a study has found. According to the research, which involved international comparison of women in 37 different populations and cultures, career women are more likely to have androgynous figures which indicate higher levels of androgens, as opposed to oestrogen, which is vital for conceiving successfully.

Women with more shapely figures have higher levels of oestrogen, reports the Daily Telegraph. The study, published in the recent issue of the journal Current Anthropology, reached its conclusion by examining the shape of women around the world by comparing their waist-to-hip ratio. This ratio is calculated by dividing a woman’s waist circumference by the circumference of her hips.

University of Utah anthropologist Elizabeth Cashdan says there is evidence the hormonal profile linked to a slimwaisted, non-curvy shape favours women in “resource competition, particularly under stressful and difficult circumstances”. The findings claim that females who are driven to succeed suffer a hormonal shift with their oestrogen levels affected by increases of androgens, hormones linked to competitiveness and strength.

For a comparison, the study looked at the measurements of 240 Playboy centrefolds and found they had an average waist-to-hip ratio of 0.68. The average female waist-to-hip ratio is 0.82.

Self help - Tips for a Healthy Holiday - Part 2

While you are there - eat and drink wisely

The most common travel related illnesses are gastrointestinal diseases usually picked up from poorly prepared foods or untreated water. To avoid the diarrhoea, stomach pains, nausea and vomiting associated with these illnesses:

* Use boiled or bottled water, or water purifiers or tablets.
* Avoid ice in drinks.
* Avoid unpasteurised milk and dairy products.
* Avoid fruit and vegetables that have been washed in the local water.
* Eat thick-skinned fruit and vegetables that you can peel yourself, such as bananas, oranges and mandarins.
* Make sure food is cooked thoroughly and eat it while it’s hot.
* Avoid shellfish.
* Don’t buy food from street stalls - hotels and busy restaurants are safest.
* Take care with personal hygiene.

While you are there - avoid insect bites

Some serious infectious diseases such as malaria, yellow fever and dengue fever, are transmitted by insect bites. While there are vaccines and drugs available to help protect against some of these diseases, travellers are advised to always protect against mosquito bites. Some tips include:

* Wear mosquito repellent that contains at least 30 per cent DEET.
* Stay indoors between dusk and dawn. The mosquitoes carrying the malaria parasite generally feed at this time.
* Apply repellent, such as permethrin, to your clothes and bedding.
* Wear socks, long pants, and long-sleeve shirts when outdoors.
* Use a bed net.
* Stay in airconditioned, screened accommodation.

Protect yourself against sexually transmitted diseases

HIV-AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases are endemic in many countries, particularly in Africa and Southeast Asia. Safe sex practices are essential.

Things to remember

* Overseas travellers have a 50 per cent chance of suffering from a travel-related illness.
* The most common travel-related sickness is gastrointestinal infection which is generally picked up from poorly prepared food and untreated water.
* Have a medical checkup to make sure you are healthy before you travel.
* Discuss vaccinations with your doctor.
* Be prepared and aware of health issues when travelling

Self help - Tips for a Healthy Holiday - Part 1

People who travel overseas have up to a 50 per cent chance of suffering a travel-related illness. While most travel-related illness is minor, some very serious infectious diseases are endemic in some parts of the world. All travellers should be prepared for travel and be aware of health issues and measures to protect themselves from sickness. Before you travel

Prepare for a healthy holiday :

* Have a medical check-up. Make sure you are healthy before you travel.
* Update your vaccinations and ask about other immunisations.
* Pack a medical kit for yourself and any children travelling with you. Make sure you pack enough of any medications you need, or take a prescription.
* Organise travel insurance, including cover if you need to be evacuated to a suitable hospital.
* Have a dental checkup.
* Have a vision check and pack a spare pair of glasses.

Vaccinations
You may want to arrange vaccinations or drugs to protect against diseases such as hepatitis, typhoid or malaria. In fact, some countries legally require travellers to have certain vaccinations, such as yellow fever. As you will need to have some vaccinations weeks or months before travel, it is best to see your doctor six to eight weeks before you go. However, if you have to travel at short notice, you can still have some vaccines. Your doctor will be able to advise which vaccines are suitable depending on:

* Your medical history and age
* Your destination and likely accommodation
* The season in which you are travelling
* The length of stay
* The type of travel, for example bus tour or backpack.

Tips for older travellers
For older people, the risk of death or serious illness while travelling is the same, or even less, than staying at home. However, planning is important and older travellers should consider the following before they travel:

* See your doctor for a checkup and discuss your fitness for the trip you are planning.
* See your dentist and optometrist.
* Pack a spare pair of glasses, any medications you need and a small medical kit.
* Organise travel health insurance with pre-existing illness cover if needed. Make sure it covers emergency evacuation.
* Make sure routine immunisations are up-to-date and get vaccinated against influenza and pneumonia.
* Consider your back - use luggage with built in wheels.
* Take clothes and hats to suit the climate.
* If concerned about your health, consider taking an organised holiday.

Tips for travellers with a disability
Travellers with a disability will need to make sure in advance that their needs can be accommodated while travelling and should consider the following:

* Make arrangements for wheelchairs, guide dogs, and seating needs well in advance.
* Find out about the medical facilities in the areas you will be visiting.
* Get a letter from your doctor detailing your medical requirements or conditions.
* Carry a Medic-alert tag.

Career Self Help - Forensic Nursing

Forensic Nursing

The term forensic nursing was first coined in 1992 by a team of about 70 nurses who specialized in sexual assault examination. This led to the foundation of an organization called the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), which today is the official association of forensic nurses.

Forensic nursing is a specialty field that deals with the care of crime victims, collecting evidences and providing health care services in the prison system. It collectively deals with the health care and judicial system. Forensic nurses' responsibilities vary as per their specialized field. They may perform death investigations, examine victims of sexual assault, or work with criminals in prison. They can also counsel schoolchildren who have gone off-track, work in emergencies, and provide consultation services. They may also train their colleagues on how to treat injured patients.

Forensic nurses can do their specialization in Forensic Clinical Nurse Specialist, Forensic Nurse Investigator, Nurse Coroner/Death Investigator, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, Legal Nurse Consultant, Forensic Gerontology Specialist, Forensic Psychiatric Nurse, and Correctional Nursing Specialist.

There are various opportunities available for employment in forensic nursing such as nurses can work with crime scene units of various police departments, private and public crime labs, private investigators and federal law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and homeland security. Forensic nurses can also work with detective agencies, district attorneys, and victims' advocates, all of whom may investigate the crimes.

Forensic nurses' salaries diversely vary as per their roles. Forensic nurses who work as independent consultants can earn high hourly rates. However, full time employee in emergency rooms or the medical examiners' office may work in regular shifts and earn lower salaries.

Forensic nursing is a new and upcoming specialty. Currently forensic nurses do not need an advanced degree or certificate to work in the field, but the American Nurses Association has been working to establish a core curriculum for it. There are many schools, which provide specialization in forensic nursing. One of the ways is to enroll with an online distance-learning program from one of the several colleges around the country. Many colleges also offer online nursing certification courses that help nurses earn the qualifications as per the specifications for forensic nursing.

Nursing provides detailed information on Nursing, Online Nursing Education, Nursing Scrubs, Nursing Liability Insurance and more. Nursing is affiliated with Registered Nurses.
