Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Your Eyes - Part 2

5.  Diabetes is often first detected during an eye test

People who suffer from type 2 diabetes (the type you develop later in life) are often symptom free, meaning they often don't even know that they have it. This type of diabetes is commonly picked up during an eye test as it can be seen as tiny hemorrhages from leaking blood vessels at the back of your eye. This certainly is good reason to get your eyes tested regularly.

4.  You see with your brain and not your eyes

The function of your eyes is to collect all the required information about the object you are looking at. This information is then passed from your eye to the brain via the optic nerve. It is the brain (visual cortex) where all this information is analyzed to enable you to see the object in its finished form. This is not to say that your eyes don't play an important role as they certainly do.

3. Your eyes can adapt to blind spots in your vision

Certain eye conditions such as Glaucoma and certain general health conditions such as having a stroke, can lead to you developing blind spots in your vision. This would be extremely debilitating if it wasn't for your brain and your eyes ability to adapt to make these blind spots disappear. It does this by suppressing the blind spot in your affected eye and letting your other good eye fill in the gaps. It is adaptation like this that makes your eyes so resilient.

2.  20:20 vision is not the best vision you can have

When people hear the phrase 20:20 vision they assume that this is the best vision possible. However this is not true as 20:20 vision refers to what the average adult should be able to see. If you imagine a typical eye test chart the 20:20 vision is probably only the line second from the bottom. The line below it is even smaller than 20:20 vision and would mean you have 20:16 vision. So don't be so impressed next time someone tells you they have 20:20 vision!

1. Your eyes water when they are dry

I know this might sound crazy but this is one of strange facts about your eyes. Your tears are made up of 3 different components and they are water, mucus and fat. If these 3 components are not in exactly the right quantities, your eyes can become dry as a consequence. Your brain responds to this dryness by producing extra water and hence your eyes water.

Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Your Eyes - Part 1

Few people could argue that without our 5 senses life would be pretty dull. All our senses are extremely important but I think if you asked most people which sense would they least like to lose they would probably say their vision. As with most of our abilities, our vision is something that many of us take for granted. If you stop and think for a moment, you will realize that just about everything we do in our day to day life involves our vision. During this article I am going to try and see if I can get you to start thinking a little bit more about your eyes. Listed below is my top 10 list of weird and wonderful things you didn’t know about your eyes

10.  Everyone needs reading glasses as they get older

This is assuming that you already have perfect distance vision. If you are currently reading this article and are under 40 years of age with perfect distance vision, I can say with absolute certainty that you will need reading glasses at some point in the future. For about 99% of the population the age that you will first start needing reading glasses is between 43 and 50 years old. This is because the lens in your eye slowly loses its focusing ability with age. In order to focus things near to you, your lens has to change from a flat to a more spherical shape and it loses the ability to do this as you get older. As you get to around 45 years old you will start to hold things further away from you to keep them focus.

9.  The lens in your eye is quicker than any camera lens

Just behind the pupil sits the eyes natural lens, whose function is to focus on the object you are looking at. Just take a minute to glance around the room and think about how many different distances you are focusing at. Every time you do this, the lens in your eye is instantly changing focus without you even being aware of it! Compare that with a camera lens which takes a few seconds to focus between one distance and another. Just be thankful that the lens in your eye is as quick as it is, otherwise things would be continually going in and out of focus.

8.  Your eyes are fully developed by the age of 7 years old

By the age of 7 years old our eyes are fully developed and are physiologically the same as adult's eyes. It is for this reason that it is vitally important to pick up a lazy eye before we reach this age. The earlier a lazy eye is diagnosed, the greater the chance it will respond to treatment, as the eyes are still developing and capable of an improvement in vision. Beyond 7 years old no amount of treatment will result in any improvement in vision.

7. You blink approximately 15,000 times each day

Blinking is a semi- involuntary function meaning we do it automatically, but can also choose to blink if we so require. Blinking is an extremely important function of your eyes as it helps remove any debris on the surface of your eye, by spreading fresh tears over them. These tears help to nourish your eyes with oxygen and also have important anti bacterial properties. You can think of the function of blinking as being similar to the action of the windscreen wipers on your car, cleaning and removing everything to keep you seeing clearly.

6.   Everyone gets cataracts as they get older

People don't realize that cataracts are just a normal consequence of getting older and everyone gets them at some point in their life. You can think of cataracts as being similar to getting grey hair, in that it is just a normal natural age change. The average age people first get cataracts is about aged 70 years old and by 80 years old you are guaranteed to have cataracts. In the same way that you could not find any aged 80 years old without grey hair, it would be equally impossible to find anyone over 80 years old without cataracts. Cataracts refer to a gradual clouding of the lens in your eye and typically take about ten years from onset to them needing treatment.

How to Convince People Effectively - Part 2

When you can, back up what you say with real facts. Lying will only convince somebody until they find out about the lie, then you will never be able to convince them of anything again.

Be willing to be convinced. Sometimes accepting one point from the other person and showing that you can change your mind when you are wrong will help them to be the same, and change their mind about the subject you care about.

Practice active listening. Active listening helps you control a conversation and keeps it on track. Active listening techniques include:

Non-verbal feedback. Nodding your head as the other talks etc.

Paraphrase what the other person has said to make sure you understand it.

Make sure you understand the other person's objections and respond to them in an intelligent manner.

Keep vigilant about your belief, but always respectful of the beliefs of others. Explain why your belief is important to you.

Understand the other person's motivations. If you know what another person wants, you are more likely to be able to give it to them.

Rephrase your beliefs in a way that the other person is better able to understand.

Follow up. Ask questions to make sure the other person understands their new views completely.

Tips

To hold the eye of a crowd select individuals in the crowd and hold their eyes on-and-off through your presentation.

Never lose your cool. Nothing lacks conviction more than a raving idiot.

Always be friendly and respectful even if the other person does not change their mind.

Beliefs fade. You may think you have changed somebodies mind but find that in a day or two, perhaps a week, they are right back to where they were before.

Buy and read some books on sales techniques.

How to Convince People Effectively - Part 1

The ability make others believe what you believe is important for success in many fields. There is often a fine line between convincing somebody your views are valid and annoying them. In this article we will look at some of the techniques you can use if you want to convince another individual to believe what you believe.

Steps

Do the homework. Make sure you understand your own viewpoint. If you are going to try to convince somebody that the Eiffel Tower is taller than the Statue of Liberty, find out the facts first, don’t make assumptions.

Learn the field. For certain areas you will need to know more than just the facts, as some subjects are subjective. For example, if you wanted to convince somebody that the Statue of Liberty was prettier than the Eiffel Tower you will need to know enough about architecture and aesthetics to argue about that subject, as well as the facts, like how tall they are. If you are selling something, like a car, you will need to know all there is to know about the car you are selling. Likewise, you will need to know all about the other cars that are in competition with your vehicle.

Engage the person politely. Maintain eye contact where possible, but don’t be annoying about it.

Establish mutual respect. You will never convince anybody of anything if they believe you do not respect them, so show the person you respect them and be good enough to gain their respect.

Gain trust. To convince people of most things you will need their trust. They don't have to trust you as a person, but they do need to trust that what you are saying makes sense, that you know your stuff. The best way to do this is to do your homework and fieldwork, that way you know a lot about the subject.

Listen carefully to what your debate partner has to say. Respond thoughtfully to their point of view.

How to Avoid Cell Phone Radiation? Safety Tips - Part 2

Limit your calls : Many of us make unnecessary calls. Reducing needless calls will reduce radiation exposure.

Wear an air tube headset : The regular wired headset has been found to intensify radiation into the ear canal. The wire transmits not only the radiation from the cell phone but also serves as an antenna attracting electromagnetic fields from the surroundings.

Don’t put the cell phone in your pocket or belt : The body tissue in the lower body area has good conductivity and absorbs radiation more rapidly than the head. One study shows that men who wear cell phones near their groin could have their sperm count dropped by as much as 30 percent.

Purchase a phone with a low SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) : Most mobile phones have a SAR level listed in its instruction manual. The SAR level is a way of measuring the quantity of radiofrequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body.

Use a scientifically validated EMF protection device : There are advanced technologies obtainable nowadays that strengthen the immune system against the effects of EMF. The EMF radiation causes a problem only when the cumulative effects due to repeated exposure weaken the body’s ability to repair it.

Other steps :

If using the phone without a headset, wait for the call to connect before placing the phone next to the ear.

Do not use the cell phone in enclosed metal spaces such as vehicles or elevators, where devices may use more power to establish connection. The metal enclosure also acts as a Faraday cage that traps the radiation and reflects it back onto the occupants.

Do not make a call when the signal strength is one bar or less, which means the phone must work harder to establish a connection.

Children should be allowed to use the cell phone in cases of emergency only. Because of their developing skulls, the radiation can penetrate much more deeply.

Avoid carrying cell phone on the body at all times. Do not keep it near the body at night such as under the pillow or on a bedside table, particularly if pregnant. You can also put it on “flight” or “off-line” mode, which stops electromagnetic emissions.

Make sure that the keypad is positioned toward the body and the back is positioned toward the outside while carrying it, so that the transmitted electromagnetic fields move away from you.

Avoid using the cell phone when the signal is weak or when moving at high speed, such as in a car or train, as this automatically increases power to a maximum as the phone repeatedly attempts to connect to a new relay antenna.

When possible, communicate by text messaging rather than making a call.

How to Avoid Cell Phone Radiation? Safety Tips - Part 1

How to Avoid Cell Phone Radiation? Safety Tips

Cell phones have become very common now-a-days, as almost every one of us has a cell phone. Cell phone also creates radiation when it is in use. This radiation is harmful for the body. There are few things that can reduce the cell phone radiation exposure by as much as possible.

Daily we are swimming in a sea of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) produced by electrical appliances, power lines, wiring in buildings, and other technologies that are part of modern life. From the dishwasher and microwave oven in the kitchen and the clock next to your bed, to the cellular phone you hold to your ear is dangerous and becoming a serious health risk.

EMR from cellular phones, both the radiation from the handsets and from the tower-based antennas carrying the signals have linked to develop health problems such as headaches, high blood pressure, brain tumors, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and more. The effects are cumulative and safety measures should be taken now before it is too late.

Tips to minimize effects of Cell phone Radiation:

These are some steps to minimize the effects of cell phone radiation exposure.

Headset : A headset is a cell phone accessory that can considerably reduce radiation exposure to the brain. Not a Bluetooth headset or a wireless headset but a headset that plugs into the phone, eliminates cell phone radiation near your brain.

Speakerphone : Speaker phone must be used as often as possible. Speakerphone also reduces the cell phone radiation exposure because you do not have to keep the cell phone near you.

Avoid Bluetooth and wireless handset : These cell phone accessories produce their own radiation along the radiation produced by the cell phone. The use of these accessories must be avoided.

Cell Phone Radiation Shielding Case : exposure while the mobile phone is in your pocket or clipped to your belt this can prevent radiation. It dissipates the radiation so that it decreases going into your body. They also have clips and antenna radiation disbursers.

7 Quick Ways to Calm Down - Part 2

3. Find Some Solitude

This can be challenging if you are at work, or at home with kids as creative and energetic as mine. But we all need some private time to let the nervous system regenerate.

I must have known this back in college, because I opted for a tiny single room (a nun's closet, quite literally), rather than going in on a larger room with a closet big enough to store my sweaters. When three of my good friends begged me to go in with them on a killer quad, I told them, "Nope. Can't do it. Need my alone time, or else none of you would want to be around me. Trust me."

My senior year I went to the extent of pasting black construction paper on the window above my door so no one would know if I was there, in order to get the hours of solitude that I needed.

Be creative. Find your space. Any way you can. Even it involves black construction paper.

4. Go Outside

5. Find Some Water

While watching Disney's "Pocahontas" the other day with my daughter Katherine (yes, I do get some of my best insights from cartoons), I observed the sheer joy the main character shows upon paddling down the river, singing about how she is one with the water. It reminded me of how universal the mood effects of water are, and how healing.

On the rainy or snowy days that I can't walk the double stroller over to our local creeks, I do something the global-warming guys say not to; take a long shower, imagining that I am in the middle of a beautiful Hawaiian rain forest.

"Water helps in many ways," writes Elaine Aron. "When overaroused, keep drinking it--a big glass of it once an hour. Walk beside some water, look at it, listen to it. Get into some if you can, for a bath or a swim. Hot tubs and hot springs are popular for good reasons."

7 Quick Ways to Calm Down - Part 1

I'm easily overwhelmed. When my kids' exuberant screams reach a decibel level my ears can't tolerate, when Chuck E., the life-size "rat" at the pizza place, starts doing his jig while flashing arcade lights blind me, or when I open my email to find 100 messages--I feel a meltdown coming on. Which is why I came up with seven quick ways to calm myself down.

I turn to these when I don't have time to call my mom and hear her tell me, "Everything is going to be fine." They keep me centered and grounded for as long as possible, and they help me relax my body even during those times when screaming kids and dancing life-size rats converge.

1. Walk Away

Know your triggers. If a conversation about global warming, consumerism, or the trash crisis in the U.S. is overwhelming you, simply excuse yourself. If you're noise-sensitive and the scene at Toys-R-Us makes you want to throw whistling Elmo and his buddies across the store, tell your kids you need a time-out. (Bring along your husband or a friend so you can leave them safely, if need be.) My great-aunt Gigi knew her trigger points, and if a conversation or setting was getting close to them, she simply put one foot in front of another, and departed.

2. Close Your Eyes

Gently let the world disappear, and go within to regain your equilibrium. Ever since my mom came down with blepharospasm (a neurological tick of the eyelid), I've become aware of how important shutting our eyes is to the health of the nervous system. The only treatment available for this disorder is to have surgery that permanently keeps your eyelids open (you need to moisten them with drops, etc.). Such a condition would be living hell for my mom, because in closing her eyes she regains her balance and proper focus.

How to Make the Right Decision - Part 2

Take the risk: decide.
Since life offers no guarantee and you would never know that your decision would be wrong until you have made it, then you might as well take the risk and decide. It is definitely better than keeping yourself in limbo. Although it is true that one wrong turn could get you lost, it could also be that such a turn could be an opportunity for an adventure, moreover open more roads. It is all a matter of perspective. You have the choice between being a lost traveller or an accidental tourist of life. But take caution that you do not make decisions haphazardly. Taking risks is not about being careless and stupid.

Here are some pointers that could help you choose the best option in the face of life's crossroads:

1. Get as many information as you can about your situation.
You cannot find the confidence to decide when you know so little about what you are faced with. Just like any news reporter, ask the 5 W's: what, who, when, where, and why. What is the situation? Who are the people involved? When did this happen? Where is this leading? Why are you in this situation? These are just some of the possible questions to ask to know more about your situation. This is important. Oftentimes, the reason for indecision is the lack of information about a situation.

2. Identify and create options.
What options does the situation give you? Sometimes the options are few, but sometimes they are numerous. But what do you do when you think that the situation offers no options? This is the time that you create your own. Make your creative mind work. From the most simplistic to the most complicated, entertain all ideas. Do not shoot anything down when an idea comes to your head. Sometimes the most outrageous idea could prove to be the right one in the end. You can ask a friend to help you identify options and even make more options if you encounter some difficulty, but make sure that you make the decision yourself in the end.

3. Weigh the pros and cons of every option.
Assess each option by looking at the advantages and disadvantages it offers you. In this way, you get more insights about the consequences of such an option.

4. Trust yourself and make that decision.
Now that you have assessed your options, it is now time to trust yourself. Remember that there are no guarantees and wrong decisions are always at hindsight. So choose... decide... believe that you are choosing the best option at this point in time.

Now that you have made a decision, be ready to face its consequences: good and bad. It may take you to a place of promise or to a land of problems. But the important thing is that you have chosen to live your life instead of remaining a bystander or a passive audience to your own life. Whether it is the right decision or not, only time can tell. But do not regret it whatever the outcome. Instead, learn from it and remember that you always have the chance to make better decisions in the future.

How to Make the Right Decision - Part 1

Life is like a road. There are long and short roads; smooth and rocky roads; crooked and straight paths. In our life many roads would come our way as we journey through life. There are roads that lead to a life of single blessedness, marriage, and religious vocation. There are also roads that lead to fame and fortune on one hand, or isolation and poverty on the other. There are roads to happiness as there are roads to sadness, roads towards victory and jubilation, and roads leading to defeat and disappointment.

Just like any road, there are corners, detours, and crossroads in life. Perhaps the most perplexing road that you would encounter is a crossroad. With four roads to choose from and with limited knowledge on where they would go, which road will you take? What is the guarantee that we would choose the right one along the way? Would you take any road, or just stay where you are: in front of a crossroad?

There are no guarantees.
You do not really know where a road will lead you until you take it. There are no guarantees. This is one of the most important things you need to realize about life. Nobody said that choosing to do the right thing all the time would always lead you to happiness. Loving someone with all your heart does not guarantee that it would be returned. Gaining fame and fortune does not guarantee happiness. Accepting a good word from an influential superior to cut your trip short up the career ladder is not always bad, especially if you are highly qualified and competent. There are too many possible outcomes, which your really cannot control. The only thing you have power over is the decisions that you will make, and how you would act and react to different situations.

Wrong decisions are always at hindsight.
Had you known that you were making a wrong decision, would you have gone along with it? Perhaps not, why would you choose a certain path when you know it would get you lost? Why make a certain decision if you knew from the very beginning that it is not the right one. It is only after you have made a decision and reflected on it that you realize its soundness. If the consequences or outcomes are good for you, then you have decided correctly. Otherwise, your decision was wrong.

Some Ways Men Show Love - Part 2

5. He Chooses the Perfect Gift

Don't worry if his gifts are duds, but if he consistently hits it out of the park with his present shopping skills, take it as a compliment: he's not only a good listener, he's also thoughtful and willing to spend hours searching for exactly the right thing.

6. He Introduces You to His Family

You can bet that as soon as he introduces a girlfriend to his mother, she'll be on his case about grandchildren. So if he's getting the two of you together, he knows what he's getting himself into and that there might be a future with you.

7. He Makes You Part of His Inner Circle

Folding you into his circle is more than just introducing you to his friends. A man who's gaga over you and can see a future will make an effort to make you part of his life. If he's scheduling standing double dates with his coupled friends and inviting you to his weekly drinking night with his friends, he wants you to stick around for a while.

8. He Makes Himself a Part of Your Life

If he's joining you for your boring Sunday morning errands and cuddling up on the couch with you with your and your roomies for Gossip Girl every week, he's in it for the long haul.

Some Ways Men Show Love - Part 1

It's a cliche for a reasonmen aren't always best at showing how they feel, even when they're head over heels. Here, some ways that men show you their love

1. He Opens Up

Emotional intimacy isn't easy for anyone, so if he's baring his soul to you, it's not because he likes hearing himself talkalright, not just because he likes hearing himself talk.

2. He Does the Dirty Work

Taking out the garbage and scrubbing the bathroom floor may not seem romantic, but it can be his way of showing you he cares: by helping you out and trying to make your life easier. He's not ironing your work pants because he likes to; he's doing it because he wants to make you happy.

3. He Asks for Your Help

Whether he wants your input on a blowout with his boss, or asks you to tag along and help him pick out a birthday present for his mom, he's asking for your opinion because he respects you and cares what you think, a sure sign he's smitten.

4. He Loves PDA

Alright, sometimes you can do without his groping in the cereal aisle at the supermarket, but take it as a compliment that he can't keep his hands off you. He's proud to call you his and to show you off, and sometimes there's no better way to show his appreciation than to give you a little squeeze!

How to Flirt With Body Language - Part 2

Step 3 -

Flip, toss or twirl your hair gently and subtly, if you're a woman. This is classic flirtatious body language.

Step 4 -

Brush off your clothes or run your hands over your hair, if you're a man. This communicates to the woman that you care about your appearance and want to look good for her.

Step 5 -

Lean your upper body slightly toward the person. Men sometimes lean with their arms or shoulders prominently displayed to show their masculinity and strength. Women often lean forward with their arms close to their chests to enhance their cleavage. This type of body language clearly demonstrates your interest.

Step 6 -

Touch the person with whom you're flirting gently without grasping, stroking or groping. You can do this nonchalantly during conversation. For instance, lightly touch the other person's arm for a moment when you tell a joke or make a point.

How to Flirt With Body Language - Part 1

Research shows that the most effective way to flirt is with body language. So whether you're single and looking for love or attached and wanting to spice up a relationship, read on and learn how you can send the right signals without ever saying a word.

Step 1 -

Make eye contact without glaring or staring. For instance, if you're a man who wants a lady's attention, look at her, make visual contact, glance away, then make eye contact again. Based on this interaction, you should get an overall feeling of whether she's interested or not.

Step 2 -

Face the person with whom you wish to flirt. Make sure you point your feet toward the object of your interest. If you're a woman, cross your legs with your knees toward the man.

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast

People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2 . Overeating

It causes harde ning of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking

It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption

Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our 20 body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6 . Sleep Deprivation

Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells..

7. Head covered while sleeping

Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness

Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts

Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely

Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

Wanna brighten up your love life? - Part 2

Here are a few tips :

Accept the issues

Look for mutually acceptable solutions. She is not giving you enough space, or you, in your turn, are getting too curious or possessive about her... Well, whatever the issues may be, you need to accept them as real and arrive at solutions to solve the problem. Do it now before the bond gets severed beyond repair.

Respect emotions

It’s very important to have a partner who respects you for what you are, who trusts you and knows how to read between the lines. This may, of course, take some time to master and for a good and healthy relationship to come about, but you can begin by not passing rude comments about their beliefs, looks and mannerisms.

Go on a holiday

Sometimes boredom kills all the excitement that is necessary to keep a relationship alive and kicking. This lack of excitement that gives way to negativity is a sure shot killer. So infuse some passion and excitement in your relationship by taking a quick romantic break. A weekend holiday is the best option, keeping hectic schedules in mind.
