Things Your Firewall Should Do - Part 1




1.              Manage Bandwidth for a Group of Users. Give high priority to your management & top executives group and give less priority your general staff. Assigned fixed bandwidth quota to each group from your common bandwidth pool.

2.              Prevent malware such as viruses, spyware, keyloggers, Trojans and intrusion attempts from entering the network at the gateway relieves the organization from great risk and spares potentially wasted resources.

3.               You can use application intelligence as a powerful forensics tool to identify exactly what’s happening on your network. Identify who is accessing your site from which country, which branch office or it is botnet activity? 

4.                Block email attachments, which contain the “Company Confidential” watermark. Block outbound mails via company email as well as web mails like yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail.

5.                Limit the total bandwidth given to streaming video, regardless of where it comes from. . Thus, the goal is to identify this traffic by what it is, rather by its origin.
