Lessons for Maintaining Relationships - Short Stories 2

NO POINTING FINGERS

A man asked his father-in-law, "Many people praised you for a successful marriage. Could you please share with me your secret?"

The father-in-law answered in a smile, "Never criticize your wife for her shortcomings or something wrong. Always bear in mind that because of her shortcomings and weaknesses, she could not find  a better husband than you."

We all look forward to being loved and respected. Many people are afraid of losing face. Generally, when a person makes a mistake, he would look around to find a scapegoat to point the finger at. This is the start of a war. We should always remember that when we point one finger at a person, the other four fingers are pointing at ourselves.

If we forgive the others, others will ignore our mistake too.

Lessons for Maintaining Relationships - Short Stories 1

TRUST

Trust is a very important factor for all relationships. When trust is broken, it is the end of the relationship. Lack of trust leads to suspicion, suspicion generates anger, anger causes enmity and enmity may result in separation.

A telephone operator told me that one day she received a phone call. She answered, "Public Utilities Board." There was silence.

She repeated, "PUB." There was still no answer.

When she was going to cut off the line, she heard a lady's voice, "Oh, so this is PUB. Sorry, I got the number from my Husband's pocket but I do not know whose number it is."

Without mutual trust, just imagine what will happen to the couple if the telephone operator answered with just "hello" instead of "PUB".

Tips for Good Night Sleep - Part 2

Avoid caffeine:

It keeps you awake and that's now what you want for a good nights sleep. We all know that.

Read a fiction book:

It takes you to a whole new world if you really get into it. And then take some time to ponder over the book as you fall asleep. I find as I read more and more, regardless of the book, I get more tired at night and so find it easier to fall asleep. Different for others?

Have the room slightly cooler:

I prefer this to a hot room. I prefer to turn off the heat and allow the coolness to circulate in and out of the windows. If I get cold, I wear warmer clothes. It also saves on the bills as you are not going to require the heat all night long.

Sleep in silence:

I find sleeping with no music or TV on more easy and restful. I guess others are different, but sleep with no distractions is best for a clearer mind.

Avoid alcohol before bedtime:

It's a depressant; although it may make it easier to fall asleep, it causes you to wake up during the night. As alcohol is digested your body goes into withdrawal from the alcohol, causing nighttime awakenings and often nightmares for some people.

Tips for Good Night Sleep - Part 1

Stick to a schedule :

Erratic bedtimes do not allow for your body to align to the proper circadian rhythms. Mum was right when she set a time we always had to go to sleep as kids. Also, make sure you try to keep the same schedule on weekends too, otherwise the next morning; you wake later and feel overly tired.

Sleep only at night :

Avoid daytime sleep if possible. Daytime naps steal hours from nighttime slumber. Limit daytime sleep to 20-minute, power naps.

Exercise :

It's actually known to help you sleep better. Your body uses the sleep period to recover its muscles and joints that have been exercised. Twenty to thirty minutes of exercise every day can help you sleep, but be sure to exercise in the morning or afternoon. Exercise stimulates the body and aerobic activity before bedtime may make falling asleep more difficult.

Taking a hot shower or bath before bed helps bring on sleep because they can relax tense muscles.

Avoid eating just before bed :

Avoid eat large meals or spicy foods before bedtime. Give yourself at least 2 hours from when you eat to when you sleep. This allows for digestion to happen (or at least start) well before you go to sleep so your body can rest well during the night, rather than churning away your food.

COMMON CONFLICT RESOLUTION MISTAKES - Part 2

Common Conflict Resolution Mistakes and How to Avoid Them :  ( continued ... )

6. Don’t gossip about the problem or about the other person involved. It’s unprofessional and will only make matters worse.

7. Don’t bring it up in public. This is a private matter to be resolved between you and the other party.

8. Don’t bring it up when there’s not enough time to address it. Instead, leave adequate time for a thorough discussion - or introduce the issue and schedule a time to resume talks in the immediate future.

9. Don’t bring it up when you’re angry, stressed, or feeling ill. That’s a disservice to you and the other person involved. Wait until you’re calm.

10. Don’t address the situation in an email. Email leaves far too much room for misinterpretation. While we’re on the subject, don’t copy others on a personal matter. This will almost certainly make the other party feel defensive, angry, or humiliated. It won’t, however, help resolve the problem.

COMMON CONFLICT RESOLUTION MISTAKES - Part 1

Common Conflict Resolution Mistakes and How to Avoid Them :

One of the most common and frustrating impediments to worker productivity is conflict between employees. Unresolved conflict can strain relationships, create tension and negativity, and dampen morale. Whether engaged in a heated debate, a disagreement, or an outright feud, take a strategic approach to resolving the problem. You’ll be most effective if you avoid making these common mistakes.

1. Don’t make assumptions about the situation or the other person’s perceptions, motivations, or reactions. You’ll get a much clearer and more accurate picture by asking the other person directly.

2. Don’t take it personally - it rarely is!

3. Don’t look for blame. Instead, try to identify cause.

4. Don’t avoid the problem. It’ll only get worse, breed resentment, and resurface at a later date. You’ve simply got to deal directly with the issue at hand.

5. Don’t attack the other person’s character. That’s just playing dirty. It will not help you work things out and it will almost certainly have a lasting, negative impact.

Internet Pornography – What Parents, Regulator and ISPs Should do? - Part 3

Internet Explorer offers security and privacy. You can block a site by following the directions below:

1. Load Internet explorer
2. Click Tools
3. Click Internet Options
4. Click the privacy tab
5. Under the Privacy window, click sites
6. Enter website address you want to block in the site address and click Ok.

Safely usage of Internet :

Parent should think of the Internet as a big lake. There are shallow spots and deep spots. You would never throw your child into the lake without supervision, without learning to swim or without learning of the dangerous areas. You would never let your children swim in the dark.

Strategies may protect child from harm on the Internet :

Install “blocking software” with the help of local computer store. Such software prevents targeted web sites from appearing on computer.

Keep computer in a public area in house such as the kitchen, family room or hallway.

Children will be embarrassed if sexual content appears and will not want to be caught in open territory with it on the screen.

Porn needs secrecy to survive. No secrecy, no porn.

If the computer is to remain in your child’s room, the door must be open when the Internet is in use.

Check the Temporary Internet Files and History Folder on the computer. The rule is, no deleting these files. Parents are advised to view these files periodically. These files will show you exactly what has been viewed and which web sites were accessed. They even will show date and time. No files, no computer.

Internet Pornography – What Parents, Regulator and ISPs Should do? - Part 2

Considering a bid to prevent children, in a recent past Sri Lanka’s president has ordered an immediate ban on pornographic websites. Similarly, India has called Internet pornography a serious crime. Any person browsing or downloading pornographic pictures or films will be punished for five years with a fine of upto Rs 1 million reported in a newspaper.

Service providers have been asked to filter websites showing obscene, pornographic and other sexually explicit material. The telecommunication regulator directed that, if an adult wants to have unrestricted access to the Internet, they have to pay and get a password from the service provider.

Internet filter software adds a strong, additional layer of defense, giving parents an added measure of control and further peace of mind. Internet filter software gives parent’s the ability to control content displayed, block websites and set up passwords.

Powerful services like email filtering, popup blocking and chat room monitoring are just some of the tools available with today’s Internet filter software, each designed to protect against and counteract the tactics of aggressive online porn companies. Internet Pornography – What Parents, Regulator and ISPs Should do? - Part 1

Internet equipped computers are now widely used in schools, and 100's of millions of children and teenagers around the world use computers for educational and leisure purposes. Unfortunately there are many aspects of the use of home computers and their associated use can be of concern to parents.

As our families become increasingly intertwined with it, the more active role we must take to protect our loved ones is from “Internet pornography”. Well-informed parents can, and they must play an active role in their children’s online activities.

There are some ways to protect our children and families. It is important for people to be educated on Internet safety issues and ways to deal with. Education and parental involvement is vital, but the use of porn blocker technology to monitor, block or filter content is extremely helpful.

Nowadays such Internet filtering and monitoring programs are a vital part of any home computer’s software. Information on pornography is available to any child who is connected to the web, and it is highly unsuitable for children of any age. While web surfing the sites are easily accessible through search engines, simply by typing any word related to the topic.

Such sites can expose a child to photos, videos and stories of a highly indecent and often shocking nature, once found. The child is then able to freely download as many files as he/she likes and save on disk.

Basic Qualities of Effective Managers - Part 2

Basic Qualities of Effective Managers - Part 1

Vision
Communication Skill

Now Continues.....

Honesty

Call it honesty, integrity or loyalty, the project manager needs to have it all. The actions of the project manager set an example for the rest of the team members. The project manager is ultimately responsible for setting standards, ethically and otherwise for the rest of the team. The project manager needs to practice before preaching and to lead by example.

Passion

A project manager without passion is one that is simple put, lacking dedication. The project manager has to be passionate about the project; he should have enthusiasm and the right attitude. Only then will people follow him and respect his decisions, because they need to feel he is doing it for the project. There needs to be commitment and optimism involved.

Basic Qualities of Effective Managers - Part 1

You do not lead by hitting people over the head – that’s assault, not leadership. How apt these words by Dwight D Eisenhower are, leadership is not about bullying people, it is about getting people to respect you with your leadership skills and qualities. People should want to be lead by the project manager. So what are the leadership qualities that a project manager should have? Should he be skilled or compassionate? Or maybe he needs to be a good communicator or a visionary? There is not right answer and there is no wrong answer. Even as I make this statement, here is a list of some leadership qualities for a project manager.

Vision

Every project manager should have a vision, a vision of what he wants the project to be like, a vision of how to get things done and a vision of the near future of the project. And he needs to be able to convey this vision to his team members. Only when there is vision is there going to be real involvement on the part of the project manager and thus involvement on part of the team members. This is when the team members and project manager start feeling like a part of the organization and not just the project.

Communication Skill

Most would say communication is the most important skill of a project manager and some would beg to differ. But communication is an integral part of the leadership qualities. Without communication the project manager cannot lead. Communication not only allows for great leadership but also for openness and relativity. Persuasion and negotiation are all a part of communication and the project manager’s qualities.

MONTHLY GUIDE FOR PREGNANCY - Part 1

Learning you are pregnant is a joyous occasion. For the next nine months, you will go through many changes. Although each woman's pregnancy is different, this month-by-month guide can help you plan for some of the changes that may occur.

Month One, Two, and Three

Your Body
By the end of the third month, you may have gained several pounds. You may feel very tired due to hormonal changes. Plan to get extra rest, sneaking in naps when you can and slow down. You should feel more energetic by the end of the third month.

You may need to urinate more frequently now. This is common during the first trimester of pregnancy, and again right before your baby is born.

For greater comfort, start wearing loosely fitting clothes.

See your health care provider by the second month to confirm your pregnancy. Regular check-ups will be scheduled for your prenatal care.

"Morning Sickness"
Nausea sometimes occurs early in pregnancy and usually goes away after the third month. Although it is called "morning sickness," it can happen any time of the day or night or you may never experience nausea.

Your Diet
Calcium, Fruits and Vegetables and Water

Calcium is very important for both you and your baby's bones and teeth. An easy way to include calcium in your diet is to eat and drink pasturized dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream.

Eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and bran cereal to make sure your bowel movements are regular. Be sure to drink plenty of water.

Your Feelings
Talk to your partner about how you are feeling. Ask for help, especially if you are tired. During this time you may be feel overweight and clumsy. Remember the extra weight is preparing your body for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

During pregnancy, it is common to have mood swings in your feelings about sex. It is not harmful to have sexual relations during pregnancy, but check with your healthcare provider about sexual activity during this time.

Do not panic unnecessarily

People panic about practically everything—missed deadlines, orders not received, comments by others, fear of mistakes, negative trends. You name it and someone has panicked about it. Yet I’ve never seen even a single instance where the panic actually helped to solve the problem. Instead, panic is neutral at best and greatly interferes at worst. Panic tends to bring out the worst in everyone. It makes others (and you) feel tense and fearful. It increases the likelihood of mistakes, missed opportunities and miscommunications.

Nothing interferes with the creation of success and abundance like panic. When you make the commitment to stop panicking, you’ll notice some incredible things happening. First, you’ll notice that a vast majority of what you are most worried about will never happen, or it won’t be as bad as you first thought. It was Benjamin Franklin who said, “Some terrible things happened in my lifetime – a few of which actually happened.”

By avoiding the panic, you won’t waste time, anxiety, and energy trying to solve what probably doesn’t need solving. Second, when you learn to keep your bearings, your wisdom will come forth. In the absence of worry, answers will emerge. Instead of a head full of concerns, you’ll create a head full of solutions. Finally, when you stay calm, you really do bring out the best in others. Many people react to the feelings of others. If you can maintain your bearings, chances are the people you work with will, too.

To bring forth your greatest potential, eliminate panic altogether from your thinking..
